JP & Laurethe’s E-session

JP & Laurethe will be getting married during this week on the beach on the KZN North coast. It will be a very small intimate and relaxed wedding. We will be doing a “Trash the Dress” as well so keep an eye out for some radical stuff.

Rainier & Charise’s Wedding Day.

We had a lot of fun with Rainier & Charise this weekend at their wedding.

We also started to play with some light writing and painting, the next step will be to add LAPP to our box of photography tools so stay tuned for that.

As always some random images from their day.

What a week I had..

Last week was a bit of a bumpy one. On Wednesday I was admitted to hospital with kidney stones. I had them before so I knew what it was when the pain hit me like a ten ton truck. I do not wish this type of pain on my worst enemy. Luckily it did not take to long for it all to be sorted out and I was back on my feet in no time. I also lost about R11 000 worth of camera kit. We forgot some of the kit at Witwater Safari lodge. Debbie’s father said he would bring it back with him for me to collect. I photographed a Greek wedding ceremony on Sunday and on the way back home I decided to call Debbie’s father and ask him if I could pick up the kit as I was in the area. He told me that they were on their way home from church as the police phoned him to tell him they had been burgled. As you can guess my kit were amongst the stuff that was stolen. I lost my 2 loved red umbrellas as well. Daleen went to shop today and got 2 brand new red ones so we are back on track. What else do you do if it rains ;)

So a bumpy week has a good ending as now I get to upgrade my tri pod and mono pod to the new carbon fibre range that is super light.

Lucas & Debbie’s Wedding day.

Lucas & Debbie’s wedding was at Witwater Safari Lodge and Spa. They could not have asked for a better day to get married. The day was cool with some clouds for dramatic effect. They had guests from around the world at their wedding. I used my new Nikon D3s for the first time and WOW what a camera this is. I shot the image of the boys smoking at ISO 6400 hand held. It is just an amazing camera, well done Nikon.

Here are some random images from their day.

Lucas & Debbie’s E-session

I photographed Lucas & Debbie on Monday. They are from London , so we could not do the e-session in advance. They will be getting married at Witwater Game Lodge.

As always some images from the shoot.

Quan & Shirley’s Wedding Day

Quan & Shirley’s got married at Chez Charlene . It was the first time I worked at this venue.
Quan & Shirley decided to tempt fate and lined up some animals in their photo shoots. All went fine on the day except that the pastor was almost one hour late as he was stuck in traffic. I must say I was impressed with the way he handled it as he got it all back on time with out any other delays.

It was fun working with the animals …….. and the bride and groom ;)

As always some random images from the day.

Quan & Shirley’s E-Session

We are in full swing again. Quan & Shirley will be getting married this coming weekend.

Quintus & Lucresia’s Wedding day at Galagos.

Their wedding day started of with a bit of rain, but it all cleared up by the time of the wedding ceremony. I love the detail on Lucresia’s dress and the henna on her hands.

Some random images from their day.

Quintus & Lucresia’s E-session

Quintus & Lucresia’s E-session was my my last photo shoot of 2009 and they will be my first shoot of 2010.
As always some random images from the session.

Happy New Year !!!!

Wow what a year we had at J & D. 2009 was full of excitement, some of the highlights were being profiled in Rangefinder (we are the second South African studio ever to be profiled) being nominated as being one of the best 350 wedding studios in the world by our international peers.

Winning 50% of the South African Fuji Wedding photography awards. Winning the silver Sabia award. Daleen and I went to Venice and attended a workshop with Yervant who is seen as one of the top 5 in the world by his peers. I did a shoot in New York with Neil van Niekerk and also did a shoot in San Francisco. We will have some of our images published in a inspirational wedding photography book. I presented a workshop for 20 local photographers and had a blast doing it.

We also had the privilege of working with all our clients. With out them, there will be no J & D. So from the bottom of our hearts we say thank you to all of them for making 2009 such a great year. In a year that the world saw economic problems in all areas J & D had one of its best years ever, we can only say thank you to God for it is He that gives us the talents to do what we do.

We only have 5 spots left and then we are fully booked for 2010. I am shooting some international destination weddings and will be presenting workshops in Canada and the USA. We have sold Furi Fine Art books as we want to concentrate on our photography more going forward. We have been very busy the last 2 weeks revamping the studio area to get all ready for 2010

So here is looking forward to 2010. May God bless you all in what you do and have 2010 be a great year for all.

The J & D Team.

Phillip & Trudie’s Wedding day.

Phillip & Trudie’s wedding was the last wedding for us this year. WOW what a way to close off the year. Phillip & Trudie is a stunning couple and they got married in a stunning venue. They tied the knot on Trudie’s parents farm. Danie and I left for the farm on Friday night. On the way there we drove into a serious thunder storm. This provided for some spectacular lightning light shows. With all the rain we hand some fun on the dirt roads on the way to the farm. Danie tested his rally driving skills and got us there in one piece. The Honda had a new paint job as a result as you can see in the image, this was the last time we used the Honda to go shoot a wedding with, we find we do a lot of these types of destination weddings and I decided to get a MPV in its place so we don’t have to worry about getting stuck in the mud.

You could see a lot of work went into this day. One of the barns were converted into a reception hall and another into a chapel for the ceremony. Even on the morning of the wedding there were still a lot of workers running around to make sure everything was 100%. Phillip & Trudie could not ask for a better day. The day was cool with some clouds in the sky for dramatic effect but no rain. There were about 300 people at this wedding. It reminded me of my own wedding as I also married a farm girl. I personally love these types of weddings. It is different and unique to every couple. We closed off the evening with a night shoot in the fog. I loved the images I got from this session.

As always here are some random images from their day.
